ZeitgeistCounter-Monuments of the Future
The fall of colonial monuments in the aftermath of the Black Live Matters protests have once again highlighted the fact that remembering is inherently political. But is it possible to create an inclusive culture of remembrance? And do we need monuments for that?
In a short lecture, the philosopher Dr. Moira Perez will elaborate on her queer approach to history as a method of reconsidering the past as part of the present. Following this she will engage with Sarah Ama Duah of this year’s Nach:Denkmal project to discuss the question if monuments can create an alternative culture of remembrance.
